One Voice - Thomas Benson
Several weeks ago the Lord began to speak to me that I was to rest, be still, be quiet, don’t worry and rejoice. So in an effort to be obedient I began to do those things, or I should say I tried to do those things. I found out how hard it really is to be quiet. For me the toughest part was the being quiet. I found that I could be still and not say anything but to truly be quiet you have to take all of your thoughts captive.
Even doing that I found that true quietness meant that all the voices I was hearing in the way of teachings, prophecy, messages, etc. were making it virtually impossible to hear His voice. The Lord then began to speak to me about dialing down the voices, damping them down until I could only hear the one Voice and then be obedient to whatever He was speaking.
I was told that I needed to learn to recognize His voice no matter how He would speak to me; whether it was audible, the inward audible voice, His whisper, even the very inflection and tone that He was using. Sometimes the tone or the inflection of our voice says a whole lot more than the words that come out of our mouth.
We hear when we listen.
Then a couple of weeks later I received a call from a prophet who said that he had a word for me. He asked me if I remembered those old wooden tops that you would wind a string around the top and then pull the string real fast to make it spin for quite a while. I said, “Yes, I remember those.” I never had one but I remembered them.
He then said that the Lord showed me to Him as one of those tops. But that instead of one string there was more than string and that each one was trying to get me to spin in their direction, and that He wanted me to get it down to one string and one string alone. I knew immediately that this was a confirmation of the one Voice or one String.
The reason for all of this is that at the end of the age, which is where we find ourselves, it is going to be imperative that we can hear the Lord’s voice clearly. There are many talking heads in the church today and more to come. You will be able to hear words, messages and prophecy that will fit whatever you want to believe, or whatever fits your doctrine or theology. In the book of Matthew the disciples asked Jesus what would be the signs of His coming, and in Matthew 24:4 Jesus answered and said, “Take heed that no one deceives you.”
So what we want is to draw ever closer to our Lord and, like the Apostle John, lay our head on His breast so that we are able to hear His very heartbeat. We cannot afford to become deceived at this point in time there are many that will be depending on you for a clear and a sure word from God.
