Tased by Love - Carol Krum

It is known that some children are born with an “old soul” having a depth of simplicity and profundity that leaves adults wondering how they could know some of the things that come out of their mouths.

Such is the case with a little seven-year-old boy named Logan.

My dear friend and sister in Christ, Diane, has been his nanny since he was about 2 months old.  It didn’t take long to know that she was falling head over heels in love with this new little man in her life.  It also didn’t take long to see that the feeling was mutual, as every time she entered the room, he lit up with great delight.  It has been pure joy watching this relationship develop into something so unique and precious over the years.

Recently, Logan’s mother was telling Diane that he had started telling lies, which was a shock to everyone, as he wasn’t at all prone to doing this.  Later, Diane sat with him alone and told him that his mother had told her that he was telling lies, to which he responded, “Yes, DiDi, I have been.”  She proceeded to tell him how very disappointed she was in hearing this and went on to tell him how wrong it was and the consequences that would come if he continued.  She ended by saying “I want you to promise me that you will never tell another lie with a “Pinky Promise”.  He wrapped his little pinky around hers and promised that he would never tell another lie, ending with “I love you!”

A few days later, his mother told Diane that something had changed in Logan.  He had two opportunities where he could have lied, but he told the truth.  She told him how very proud of him she was that he was telling the truth and not lying.  Finally, she asked him what had happened that had made him stop lying.  His answer was simple.  He said, “DiDi tased me!”  She asked him to repeat what he had said as she wasn’t sure what he meant.  He said, “DiDi tased me with her love and I can’t ever tell another lie.”

Some may chuckle at his response, while others are speechless when hearing this story.  I was speechless (which if you knew me, you would know that is a miracle!)  I knew that I knew God was in this somewhere with a message from Heaven and I was determined to find out exactly what it was.

The only thing I could think to connect the word “tase” with was a taser gun that the police use.  So I decided to do a word search.  There had to be a hidden spiritual meaning in this word that had caused my spirit to rise up within me when I heard it!  Turns out that the only reference used is associated with the taser gun.  But a sentence used in the definition is where the hidden message was waiting for me.  “The police tased the man just in time before he was able to do harm to himself or others.”

Bam!  I found it!

We can easily relate to living out Isaiah 53:6 which says “We all like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way.”  It is no wonder that Jesus tells us in Matt. 26:41 to “Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”  But He also promised to send us His Holy Spirit to be our helper.  And He did!  Read Acts 2!

Our God is a good God, kind, gentle and tender in heart toward His people whom He loves.  He doesn’t condemn us in our sin, because Jesus bore it all for us on the cross at Calvary.  He has always known our weaknesses.  So, it is through the power of His Holy Spirit, that He “tases” us with His love just in time before we can do more harm to ourselves and others when we are about to do or say something we shouldn't. Keep in mind, He loves us just the way we are…but too much to let us stay that way!!

How gentle was His love in that “Pinky Promise” as His power flowed from one soul to another, bringing conviction into the life of a sweet little boy.  This is a picture He wants us all to have of Him and His great love for us.  It is always the “goodness of God that leads us to repentance.” Romans 2:4. “He is gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and great in mercy.  The Lord is good to all, and His tender mercies are over all His works.”  Psalm 145:8-9

Pray with me:

Father, thank You for this beautiful demonstration of Your love and tender mercies toward all Your children.  Today we lift up our loved ones to You, as well as ourselves, and ask You to “tase us with Your love.” Through the power of Your Holy Spirit, convict us of anything that may lead us away from You through sin and gently bring us back into truth. What a loving God You are!  May You find us bowing down in humility with hearts full of thanksgiving and praise for loving us on earth the same way You love us in Heaven.  In Jesus’ Name, we pray.  Amen!
