White as Snow - Jenn Elliott

As a child, I lived in California. Snow wasn’t something I experienced on a regular basis. My grandparents had a cabin at Donner Lake and we spent Christmas there when I was almost 4. It snowed a lot that year, and I was mesmerized by it as it muffled the sounds of the world and yet crunched under my feet. I loved how it sparkled in the sun and gave the land a fresh, clean smell. I loved everything about it - but my favorite thing was how white it was. In my teen and young adult years, I lived in Spokane, WA. By this time, I had lost so much and I lived in a very different world from the innocence of my childhood. When it snowed then, it was covering all the ugliness around me. The debris of my life just seemed to disappear under that blanket of fresh, glistening white snow. It felt like a blanket of peace covering the chaos. No matter where I lived, the snow would make it beautiful!

Shortly after Jesus set me free, He led me to my favorite part of His Word. “Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.” Isaiah 1:18. Oh, how precious - that He would make me white as snow! With everything I had done, how could it be so? I asked Him once, “When You look at me, what do You see?” He replied, “I see the Blood”. Isn’t it amazing that through the Blood of Jesus, He makes us white as snow? He doesn’t see our sin, our ugliness…He sees the blood! The Blood washes us and makes us pure and acceptable, welcoming us to come boldly to His throne of grace. His grace is what empowers us to sin no more, but His blood washes away every sin.

In the footnotes of The Book of Isaiah in the Passion Translation, I read that the Hebrew word for “scarlet” is taken from the root word for double (dyed) or “twice” (dipped in Scarlet dye), making it a permanent color. I will tell you that for a lot of my life, I felt permanently stained. But you see, snow is white through and through. There is no part of it that isn’t white. In the natural, the snow covers the ugliness, but in the Spirit, we become white as snow; there are no stains, only the white snow; only the Blood.

Maybe you are a brand new Christian, and you don’t really know how pure He has made you. Or maybe you have been taught a lie, that you ARE a sinner saved by grace. (P.S. Here’s the truth - You were a sinner, then you were saved by Grace, and now you are as pure as snow.) Maybe you haven’t been washed yet, and would like to be pure as snow. Or maybe you are like me; you knew this, but you began looking at yourself through different eyes than His. No matter what your situation may be, this word is for you. You are white as snow, through His blood. All you have to do is believe it. And if you don’t, then ask Him to give you that revelation of truth so that you can begin to walk in all that it means for you.
