Overcoming With a Renewed Mind - Cal Pierce

In healing rooms we minister to a lot of people who carry a past trauma that is a present reality in their life. They can't seem to get beyond a hurt, an injury or some experience that impacted them in a negative way. Not only has the enemy brought injury but he has been able to sustain it by causing the person to carry it into their future. Because the person comes in for prayer they want to be set free. Quite often they know what the Word says, they read the Word but can't seem to get past the issues.

In John, chapter 8, verses 31 and 32, it says, "If you abide in My word then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free."

I have heard people say that they have read this scripture and then ask, "Why haven't I been set free?" The key here is that we can't be set free until we know the truth. The word know here means "to allow." In other words, the truth can't make us free until we allow it to. We must be obedient to the Word so that it can set us free. What the Word is allowed to do in you will determine what the Word can do for you.

Our mind must be renewed to truth before truth can set us free. Without a renewed or transformed mind, our mind will be conformed to the world and keep us in bondage. In Romans 12:12, the Word tells us we must be transformed by the renewing of our mind or we will be conformed to the world. The Word renew means to have our mind renovated by the Holy Spirit in our obedience to Him. A renewed mind doesn't think the way it used to. It focuses on God's will rather than the will of the enemy. A renewed mind is the mind of Christ. (I Cor 2:16) With a renewed mind, instead of being conformed to the world, we will be conformed to the Kingdom of God. Instead of being held captive by every thought that brings back trauma, we hold every thought captive.

2 Cor 10:3, "We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ."

The enemy wants to hold us captive by using our mind to think thoughts that come against the knowledge of God. He knows that knowledge or truth will set us free. If he can cause us to think and focus on the problem then we won't be focused on the solution of truth.

A transformed mind will abide in the Word of God and fulfill the will of God which provides the power to live an overcoming life.
