Fear Not! - Jim White
This is definitely the season for Psalm 91 to be your daily “go-to” scripture! So many are dealing with fear and if left unchecked fear will cripple and demobilize you. From the world’s perspective you have every reason to fear. War, earthquakes, Ebola, famine, unstable economies, unemployment, government corruption, and last, but certainly not least, terrorism especially ISIS. These are all good reasons to want to crawl under your bed and not come out until things get better. The only thing is if you do that, you’ll die from old age lying under there because things aren’t going to get better. Isaiah tells us in chapter 60 verse 2, “For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and deep darkness the people…” so I think it’s safe to say that we are always going to have a reason to fear.
God tells us in His Word, in Psalm 91:5-7, “You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day, nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you!!!” This is plenty reason enough for you and I to make the choice to not fear. God has promised to take care of you. He is for you and not against you. He is committed to you. The devil will come and plant thoughts of discouragement and despair in your mind. Your mind is the battleground where most of your spiritual warfare is fought and won. Take responsibility for your mind and decide that you’re going to be the custodian of your mind. Rid your mind of all evil and negative thoughts and wicked imaginations.
In the book of 2 Kings, chapter 6 we read where the King of Syria had dispatched his army of horses and chariots to surround the city where the Prophet Elisha along with his servant was staying. When Elisha’s servant went out and saw the army of the enemy surrounding the city he ran into the house and told Elisha the bad news. The Prophet told his servant to go back out and take another look, while the servant obeyed Elisha lifted up his voice to God and simply asked God to open his servant’s eyes that he may see.
Now the servant obviously was able to see because he saw the enemy surrounding the city. However, when all you can see is the enemy you need an eye exam! Fortunately we serve a mighty God who loves correcting the vision and changing the lenses of His people so that they can clearly see. God doesn’t ask us to be in denial of the existence of evil in our world today. He doesn’t want us to be ignorant of Satan and his devices, however, when all you choose to see is the negativity in our world today you need to go and ask God to change your lenses so you can see the way He does. He adjusted the vision of Elisha’s servant and he was able to see the enemy surrounding the city yet additionally he saw the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around!
Let this be a lesson that you’ll always remember, those who are for you are far greater than those who are against you. The enemy may come and surround you but learn to look through the lens of God! You will see that His ministering spirits better known as angels are surrounding the enemy. God has promised that no evil shall befall you! My prayer is that everyone who reads this article will start believing what they believe! When the church becomes full of believing believers it will then begin to take the posture of an advancing army of God that goes throughout the land demonstrating the will of Almighty God!
Take heart, my friend, and don’t allow the enemy to limit what you see. Pull away from the television news shows that report terror, calamity and death. Nothing wrong with staying informed but once you’ve been informed on what’s going on in your world each day, then go to your heavenly Father and ask Him for some good news for that day. I guarantee you through His Holy Spirit He will direct you to His Word and give you wisdom and revelation knowledge for that day. Then you can greet your day well informed with a song of freedom and victory!
