Tis the Season - Carol Krum

No matter where we go today, we already see signs of Christmas filling our atmosphere with Christmas songs, decorated trees and bright lights, even before we have had a chance to put away our fall decorations or eat our Thanksgiving dinner!  Ready or not, the bells are ringing at every storefront announcing the arrival of the “Season to be jolly”!

Contrasting this atmospheric sound and display of joy with the evening news that broadcasts the pain, disappointment, fear and anger that is felt and being expressed across our land as a result of our recent election and we can see that we are caught in the midst of  a dichotomy of emotion, from the joy of victory to heartbreaking defeat.  After the results of the 2012 election, I wept for 2 weeks, mostly because of the incredible divide in our nation, seeing hearts and minds being swept into a deeper chasm of deception, especially on particular issues such as abortion.   I can honestly say I really do understand the pain and disappointment, the fear and anger that is felt, only from the “other” side.  However, in the midst of victory, once again tears flow!  The same divide exists today in our land and my heart still breaks!

But wait!   What does the Lord have to say about this?

Oh, yes, Lord!  What is on Your heart and what truth do You want to speak into my heart and the hearts of all Your people?

Psalm 133 says, “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!”  Looking at the word “brethren” in my word study, this is what I found - “Brother, especially an immediate relative, but also any fellowman; countryman, companion.”  Those with opposing views are our “brethren” and we are called to live in unity with them.  So how does that look?

His Spirit led me to John 14:15, “If you love Me, keep My commandments.”  And then to Matthew 5:43-45, 48, “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons (and daughters) of your Father in heaven…Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.”  Here is a bit of a roadmap, if you will, that might help us along this path to unity.

Love, Bless, Do Good, Pray!

What a splendid opportunity to glorify God, to be the echo of Heaven on earth and to grow and mature in LOVE!  We cannot grow in love without having resistance somewhere. Compare it to a weak muscle that needs to be strengthened.  We have to put that muscle to the test of endurance and strengthening in order for it to grow.  So it is with love!  They will know we are Christians by our LOVE.  Keep in mind that to be perfect does not mean to be flawless in moral character, but rather to be able to love as the Father loves, loving those who do not love us.

What a treasured season to BLESS ALL of our fellow countrymen in this land, whether we have met or not!  This is a time to release all of God’s promises in the form of blessing upon each and every one.  For as He blesses those who walk in obedience to Him, those blessings will overflow into our atmosphere of influence and graciously affect those around us.  The power of the tongue is one of the greatest gifts we have been given, if used properly.  We can either bless or curse, but we cannot do both at the same time.  Job 22:28 says, “Decree a thing and it shall be established.”  So with our mouths we are able to renounce every word that does not align with God’s Word and decree His truth, filling the atmosphere with the power and life of His Word!!  Forgive and bless over and over and over again.  Galatians 6:9 says, “Do not become weary in doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up!"

Tis the season to DO GOOD to those who are reeling in confusion and pain in our circle of influence.  Jesus was always moved with compassion when He saw the sick, the lame and the brokenhearted people in His midst, and it led Him to DO GOOD to them.  That is what caused so many to follow after Him, to eventually become carriers of the Good News throughout the earth.  They had lived out what Paul would eventually script in Romans 2:4, “…the goodness of God leads you to repentance.”  It is clear that there has been an atmospheric shift and we must seek the heart of God as to how to demonstrate His goodness to everyone we meet, asking for new creative ways to DO GOOD, to be His voice, His hands and His love in this new season.

And finally, PRAY!!   Pray for the Spirit of God to cast His light of truth into the darkness, fear and confusion of those who feel hopeless and set them free from the lies they have believed, for “your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish.”  Matthew 18:14.   Pray for our leaders on the local level as well as the national to receive the wisdom of God to lead our cities, states and the nation safely back into His perfect will.  Call upon the angels of God to invade the atmosphere with their presence to guard and protect the lives and properties of the innocent.

This is a time that God has granted to our nation to shift back into righteousness, calling forth the men and women that He has chosen for such a time as this.  And this process will be messy!!  And in the midst of the mess…we are called to be a thankful, faithful, peaceful, hopeful and joyful sound of heaven on the earth.  This is our time to LOVE, BLESS, DO GOOD, and PRAY!!!

‘Tis the Season!!!

And Merry Christmas to each and every one of you!
