What Defines Us - Cal Pierce

Today we live in a tumultuous world. As believers we must hear God as much as possible. We cannot afford to let our guard down for even a moment. It is important that we remember where the battle is. Out struggle is not against flesh and blood but against the powers of the enemy. (Ephesians 6:12) The enemy would like us to battle on his terms. His terms are to battle against flesh and blood. He knows that God has given us authority over all the power of the enemy.

If we focus on the condition of the world, there is a tendency to allow that to affect us. In other words, it is the will of the enemy that we have fear and trauma because of those things that are wrong all around us. When this happens we become defined by what the enemy does rather than what God says. This weakens us and our ability to destroy the work of the enemy.

We have been told that in the world we will have tribulation, but we must be encouraged because Jesus has overcome the world on our behalf. Let's remember I John 5:4:

Whoever is born of God overcomes the world and what is the victory that has overcome the world - our faith."

The world is not to change us, we are to change the world. We have a victory in our faith in Jesus because greater is He who is in us than he who is coming against us.

We may have friends and family members who are going through things but our greatest support to them is when we are strong in the Lord and the power of His might. (Ephesians 6:10 - 11)

Let's take courage because with God all things are possible. When things are difficult that's the time to trust God and not lean on our understanding so that He can order our steps. When we are weak we only add to the problem, but when we are strong in the Lord we can bring the solution.
