Healing Rooms Kids Ministry - Pam Walker
Children Pray Powerful Prayers
When I was growing up, I was raised in a denominational church that didn’t teach that healing was a provision for all Christians, made available to all of us by Jesus’ supreme sacrifice of himself on the cross. As a child, I remember thinking that there had to be more. I knew the Bible stories of Jesus healing people, and it just didn’t seem right that we were never taught to expect the miraculous in our lives.
Children are born with a heart to believe for miracles and healing. I’ve seen that at Healing Rooms Kids in Spokane, WA. Their faith is pure and so full of enthusiastic expectation. Jesus was displeased when He saw His disciples trying to hold back the children from coming to Him.
“…and He said unto them, permit the little children to come to me, and forbid them not; for such is the kingdom of God.” Mark 10:14
The same Holy Spirit that dwells in adults is the same Holy Spirit in children. God’s power and spirit of revelation is within them and it is released through their faith when they learn they have permission to pray for the sick. Jesus lives in them and wants to heal people through them, too!
Because they are children, it can look a little different than when adults pray. Sometimes they use a toy sword and cut off the sickness as a prophetic act. One time a child blew a shofar (rams horn) into the ear of a woman with a migraine headache and it left!
One thing we endeavor to do a lot is to give the children time to “soak” in worship music and ask Jesus what they should draw. They ask for a picture that would be meaningful to those coming for prayer that day. They also ask Holy Spirit who they are to give it to. Over and over the pictures are just what was needed to bring hope and encouragement to the recipient. Once a little boy drew a picture of a heart shortly before we received a call to pray for someone who needed their heart healed! It was a special confirmation that He would hear their prayers that day. Another time a picture of a wheat field was drawn and the person to whom it was given lived on a large wheat farm!
Healing Rooms Kids is a program we have had in Spokane Healing Rooms since 2013. We are currently planning the Healing Rooms Kids program to start up again this September and it will go through mid-May. We meet 2 Saturdays a month in the morning at 9 A.M. so that we can worship, soak and pray with the adult team that is also praying Saturday mornings.
